†WEST INDIES v INDIA 1988-89

At Port-of-Spain, March 9

15-Apr-1990
At Port-of-Spain, March 9. West Indies won by six wickets. Toss: West Indies. India were asked to bat, which is what they would have done had they won the toss, but their prospects of making a challenging score were wrecked when Ambrose removed Srikkanth with a delivery which seamed from leg to off. Against tight bowling on a slow pitch, they made little headway, and there were signs of desperation in the way Shastri and Sidhu got out. With only 40 scored from twenty overs, Richards put himself on and, supported by accurate bowling from Baptiste, gnawed through the middle order. Only Kapil Dev, with 44 from 47 balls, prevented a total rout, and when West Indies batted, he bowled an opening spell of seven overs for 4 runs. Of the 149 West Indies needed, 72 came during a second-wicket partnership between Greenidge, who made 70, with six fours and two sixes, and Richardson.
Man of the Match: C. G. Greenidge
