The third meeting with the full strength of the West Indies ended in defeat for MCC by 289 runs. In achieving a noteworthy victory, West Indies owed a great deal to the batting of Headley - who created a record by scoring a hundred in each innings in a representative engagement - and to that of Roach and also to some effective fast bowling by Constantine and Francis. MCC's fielding was badly at fault when West Indies opened their first innings with a stand of 144, Hunte being missed four times. Roach, however, played brilliantly for rather less than five hours, hitting three sixes and twenty-two fours, and in partnership with Headley he added 196. The total stood at 425 on the fall of the fifth wicket but the remaining batsmen were dismissed for 46. The only real resistance in the MCC's first innings came from Hendren and Ames and the West Indies went in again leading by 326. Slow methods at their second attempt almost deprived the home team of success for MCC, when facing the task of getting 617 runs, set themselves to save the game and held out until within a quarter of an hour of time. Hendren carefully waiting for the right ball to hit, had twenty-one fours in his sixth century of the tour.
