Victory secured West Indies a place in the finals although, apart from Lara, left stranded on 83 from 98 balls, their batsmen still inspired little confidence. No one else, on either side for that matter, reached 40. Five West Indians were run out, equalling the one-day international record, with Sherwin Campbell unfortunate to go after colliding with the bowler, Streak. He stopped dead in mid-pitch while the bails were removed, but the third umpire ruled that the Zimbabwean captain had not deliberately obstructed him. Zimbabwe needed only 179 to keep their ambitions alive, but McLean grabbed their first three wickets for 12 runs in his first 21 balls, and they were a feeble 64 for six by the halfway mark. Although Viljoen and Streak fought back, Samuels and his off-spin had the final say.
