The future of county cricket at Horsham was thrown into doubt with the news that Sussex have moved their match against Warwickshire, scheduled to be played between May 10-13, to Hove.
The decision to switch the festival game was taken after a meeting between Derek Traill, the county's grounds manager, and officials of Horsham CC.
"Due to inappropriate maintenance in recent weeks the surface of the square at Horsham is not conducive to first-class cricket at the present time," Traill explained. "Sussex groundstaff are working with Horsham to rectify this problem during the rest of the season and there is no reason why first-class cricket will not return to Horsham in 2006."
