Out of more than 50,000 people in the dusty cauldron of Ahmedabad, only one - Inzamam-ul- Haq - kept his cool, punting the last ball of the game through point for four to level the series. Never before had Pakistan successfully hit a one-day target above 300, and this game was two overs short. But the chase was constructed with methodical skill that had all the hallmarks of coach Bob Woolmer. After Shahid Afridi knocked up a manic 23-ball 40, the middle order added 123 between the 15th over and the 35th, but struck only four boundaries. Instead, they nudged, deflected and stole singles and doubles. To growing disbelief in the crowd, Pakistan crept forward until Inzamam's unfussy 60 saw them through an unexpectedly nerve-racking final over from Tendulkar, with just three needed. Tendulkar had started the day with his 38th one-day international century - the first since March 2004 in Rawalpindi, another losing cause. Combining imperious strokeplay and cussed determination, he hit 12 fours and two sixes. Afterwards, another poor Indian over-rate led to a six-match ban for Ganguly, reduced to four on appeal to the ICC.
