Pakistan v West Indies, 2006

Craig Cozier
15-Apr-2007
At Multan, December 13, 2006 (day/night). West Indies won by seven wickets. Toss: Pakistan.
The series came alive after a stroke-filled century off 99 balls by Samuels, including 17 fours and a six, which powered West Indies to an easy win. Samuels arrived at 11 for two, in pursuit of Pakistan's unconvincing 209, to share a stand of 141 with Chanderpaul. Samuels overcame a scratchy start - his first run came off his 16th ball - to register his second one-day century, but his first score of more than 50 for three and a half years. It was filled with delightful strokes on the first decent batting pitch of the series. Pakistan, without their middle-order engine of Inzamamul- Haq (finger injury), Younis Khan (family bereavement) and Mohammad Yousuf (sick wife), were struggling from the time Powell and Smith reduced them to 47 for four, with Shahid Afridi failing on his return. Yasir Hameed, in his first one-day international for nearly a year, and Faisal Iqbal shared a mature partnership of 62, and the stand-in captain Abdul Razzaq - fourth in line to the throne - pushed the total past 200. A double strike from Naved-ul-Hasan provided an early lift, but Razzaq's inexperience was exposed when he did not bring Naved back during the crucial stand.
Man of the Match: M. N. Samuels.
