Cameron White made his second first-class double-century on Wednesday as he continued the charge of Australian batsmen dominating the county circuit. White finished unbeaten on 201 as he guided Somerset to 6 for 412 on the opening day of their match against Gloucestershire.

White belted 28 fours and one six in his 282-ball innings and twice struck four boundaries in an over from Carl Greenidge, the fast-bowling son of Gordon Greenidge. His hundred came from 146 balls and it was an important innings for his side - he had come to the crease at 3 for 65.

It was White's third century from five matches this season and it was an innings of little risk; he gave no chances until Hamish Marshall dropped him in the gully on 149. If White gets decent support from the lower order, he could pass his highest score of 260 not out, which he made for Somerset last August.

His effort now means four of the top five run-scorers in the County Championship in 2007 are Australians. After Mark Ramprakash, who has 676 runs, the list continues with Justin Langer (665), Simon Katich (557), White (540) and Michael Di Venuto (537). Langer, who is White's captain at Somerset, failed to have much impact against Gloucestershire and was out for 18.
