Somerset held on for a thrilling two-run win against Kent at Canterbury , despite a brilliant all-round display from Ryan McLaren. He followed 4 for 46 with 78 off 72 balls after Kent crashed to 45 for 5. All five wickets fell to Peter Trego, but McLaren and Geraint Jones (45) added 81 then James Tredwell (51) put on 79 with McLaren for the seventh wicket. However, Tredwell fell to Gareth Andrew and Steffan Jones kept Kent down in the final over. Justin Langer earlier anchored Somerset's innings with 92 off 105 balls.
Durham brushed aside Yorkshire to knock them off their perch and storm to the top of Division Two. It was back-to-back wins for Durham at Chester-le-Street , but Yorkshire's second loss in two days was just as miserable as their defeat at Surrey's hands. Again they were bowled out for a pitifully low score - 122, with Anthony McGrath's 50 a lone bright spot - while Durham were hardly troubled in pursuit. Phil Mustard once again pressed his claims with an unbeaten 66.
Chris Schofield again proved himself with the bat, his fifty one of three half-centuries as Surrey recorded an emphatic 53-run victory against Glamorgan after posting 280 for 8 at The Oval. Scott Newman and Alistair Brown were their other half-centurions, while Dean Cosker was Glamorgan's most successful bowler with 3 for 30. The home side showed no signs of travel fatigue after crushing Yorkshire on Sunday at Scarborough and racing back down for a win at headquarters.

David Sales hit an unbeaten 92 to guide Northamptonshire to a five-wicket win against Hampshire with an over to spare at Wantage Road. He faced 70 balls and hit eight fours and two sixes after Stephen Peters contributed 54. Lance Klusener helped Sales complete the chase with a rapid 36 off 23 balls as Warne-less Hampshire ran out of ideas. Michael Carberry's unbeaten 75 held Hampshire together, while 17-year-old Liam Dawson impressed with 32, but the result leaves them well adrift of the top.
