Three top-order batsmen hit fifties to put the Windward Islands in a strong position but legspinner Odean Brown's six-wicket haul handed Jamaica opening-day honours in Dominica. Windwards were off to a great start after being put in, with Keddy Lesporis and Johnson Charles putting on an opening stand of 70. But Brown claimed both batsmen within 19 runs of each other - Lesporis departed for 50 off 78 balls after being caught by Tamar Lambert. Andre Fletcher and Kevin James then took centrestage in a third-wicket stand of 88 which propelled Windwards to 177 and looked to have laid the foundation for a big score. While Fletcher hit six fours during his 102-ball 61, James stroked three boundaries in his patient 55. When Fletcher was bowled by Brown after lunch, though, it triggered a slide as Darren Sammy, Donwell Hector and captain Rawl Lewis fell cheaply. Windwards were eventually bowled out for 261 in the final session with the last six wickets falling for 46. At the close, Jamaica had reached 15 without loss with Xavier Marshall and Brenton Parchment at the crease.
