Kevin Arnott on walking out to open in Zimbabwe's first Test

05-Nov-2009

Kevin Arnott: "This is a shot of Grant Flower and myself walking out for Zimbabwe in our inaugural Test match, against India in 1992. To open the batting and to face the first ball was a great honour for me. In the first innings Grant and I created a new world record at the time - of the highest opening partnership by a Test nation on debut: 100 runs. As amateurs we had prepared very thoroughly under the watchful eye and enormous experience of John Hampshire. The scorecard will show that we, against all expectations, dominated India in that inaugural Test. It was only Sanjay Manjrekar who saved them from embarrassment."
