  • It was the 1660th ODI in cricket history.
  • It was India's 459th and Zimbabwe's 170th match.
  • It was the 34th match between the two teams. The record now reads: India 26, Zimbabwe 5, tied 2.
  • Umpire AM Saheba became the 82nd Indian to officiate in a ODI. Incidentally India has employed most umpires in One-Day internationals than any other country. Australia with 35 umpires is placed second.
  • Rahul Dravid captained India for the first time in his 139th match. He became the 16th player to captain India in a ODI.
  • The sixth wicket partnership of 102 runs between Hemang Badani and Reetinder Sodhi is India's best for this wicket position against Zimbabwe. This obliterates the previous record stand of 60 which was achieved on two separate occasions. It was the seventh century partnership for sixth wicket for India.
  • The Badani-Sodhi partnership is also the second highest for this wicket for any team against Zimbabwe after the 137 run-partnership between Hansie Cronje and Shaun Pollock for South Africa at Johannesburg on 31-01-1997.
  • Ajit Agarkar (67*) reached his fifty off just 21 balls which beat the 17 year old Indian record held by Kapil Dev (fastest fifty off 22 balls) against West Indies at Berbice on 29-03-1983. Agarkar's fifty is the fifth fastest in all ODIs. The details:

  • Agarkar's innings is the highest for a batsman facing exactly 25 balls in a match. The previous record was in the name of New Zealander Lance Cairns. Cairns had made 52 against Australia at Melbourne in 1982-83.
  • Agarkar's scoring rate (268.00) is the second highest in all ODIs for a batsman scoring atleast 50 runs in a match. The record is held by Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya who made 76 off just 28 balls against Pakistan at Singapore in 1995-96 keeping a scoring rate of 271.43. Incidentally the previous best scoring rate for India was 189.47 as Kapil Dev hit 72 runs off 38 balls in the match against West Indies at Berbice on 29-03-1983.
  • The seventh wicket unbroken partnership of 85 between Reetinder Sodhi and Ajit Agarkar is India's best for this wicket against Zimbabwe. The pair betters the previous record stand of 64 between Robin Singh and Anil Kumble at Bulawayo on 15-02-1997.
  • Alistair Campbell by conceding 21 runs in his only over (50th of Indian innings) achieved the dubious distinction of worst bowling figures for a Zimbabwean ina one over spell in ODIs. He 'bettered' Grant Flower's record who conceded 20 runs against India at Kallang on 04-09-1999.
  • Ajit Agarkar won his third Man of the Match award in his 69th match.
  • India has now played 24 series against a country at home soil, winning 16, drawing 2 and losing only six. The last time India suffered defeat in a bilateral series was way back in 1987-88 when it lost to West Indies 6-1. Since then India has won
