22 Years since India last won a Test series in Sri Lanka. Their 1-0 win in 1993 was their first and only Test series victory in Sri Lanka. Since then, they've drawn 0-0 in 1997, lost by identical 2-1 margins in 2001 and 2008, and drawn 1-1 in 2010. (Click here for a series-wise look at India's Test series in Sri Lanka.)
3-3 Sri Lanka's win-loss record in home Test series since 2010. They've beaten Pakistan (twice) and Bangladesh, lost to Pakistan, South Africa and Australia, and drawn against India, West Indies, England and New Zealand. Between 2005 and 2009, Sri Lanka were far more dominant at home, winning eight out of nine Test series.
4-3 Sri Lanka's win-loss record in their last eight Tests in Galle. They've beaten Pakistan (twice), England and New Zealand, but also lost to South Africa, Australia and Pakistan during this period (since 2011). In their most recent Test here, Sri Lanka were beaten by Pakistan by ten wickets a couple of months ago. India have a 1-2 win-loss record in three Tests, winning in 2008, but losing in 2001 and 2010. 61 Wickets for Rangana Herath in 12 Tests in Galle, at an average of 26.80. It is the most wickets he has taken at any venue. However, in his last Test here, against Pakistan a couple of months ago, he only managed returns of 1 for 129. Dilruwan Perera, who took 4 for 153 in that Test, has 19 wickets from three matches in Galle, at an average of 31.52, while Tharindu Kaushal hasn't yet played a Test in Galle.

That suggests Galle isn't such a bad venue for pace, but the two Sri Lankan seamers in the current squad who have played here both average more than 50: Dhammika Prasad has six wickets in three Tests at an average of 51.33, while Nuwan Pradeep has three wickets in two Tests at 57.66. Among the Indian bowlers, Harbhajan Singh has 11 wickets from three Tests here at 31.27, while Ishant Sharma has six in two, at 38.16.
