Forty years after cricket's greatest game, the two teams that played in the historic Tied Test will return to the scene of the match in Brisbane next month for five days of public and private celebrations to mark this golden era of Australian cricket.

The Australian Cricket Board (ACB) and Queensland Cricket today confirmed that with the support of Mincom, the Brisbane based provider of enterprise solutions, they will bring up to 23 of the 25 surviving members of the West Indian and Australian squads from the 1960/61 series to Brisbane in the lead-up to the first Ansett Australia Test.

ACB Chief Executive Malcolm Speed said that the celebrations were planned to mark one of cricket's greatest eras and to recognise the enduring legacy that both teams had left to the Australian game.

"The 60/61 Series is credited with reviving Test cricket in this country. The spirit and skill of the players who took part still endures today," said Mr Speed.

"Forty years on, with the West Indies again set to tour Australia, it is an ideal time to celebrate the contributions of the players from this extraordinary tour."

The Australian players who will be in Brisbane for the celebration include Richie Benaud, Alan Davidson, Lindsay Kline, Ian Meckiff and Bob Simpson while from the West Indies side Lance Gibbs, Wes Hall, Cammie Smith and Joe Solomon have committed to the tour.

The official celebrations will see the players honored at a gala dinner with guests including the current Australian and West Indian teams at the Brisbane Convention Center on Tuesday, 21 November.

The teams will take part in a motorcade around the `Gabba on the first day of the First Test, Thursday, 23 November.

In addition to these events there will also be a number of private functions and unofficial celebrations for the players to renew their acquaintances and to reminisce about the series.
