West Indies v South Africa, 2014-15

Wisden's review of the fourth ODI, West Indies v South Africa, 2014-15

15-Apr-2015
At Port Elizabeth, January 25, 2015. West Indies won by one wicket. Toss: West Indies. One-day international debut: S. S. Cottrell.
Finally, West Indies showed some fight. Even so, they required all their batsman against opponents who, try as they might, could not pretend they needed to approach the match as if the series were still alive. South Africa paid the price for resting Amla by losing four wickets inside 15 overs, and their recovery to 262 was almost entirely down to Miller's studious maiden one-day century, which took him 122 balls and included only nine fours. His main help came in stands of 90 with Duminy and 63 with Parnell; Holder's maintenance of line and length at good pace brought him four wickets.
South Africa's attack was missing Dale Steyn, Vernon Philander and Imran Tahir - but even they might not have been enough to derail the clean, confident hitting of Russell. Arriving in the middle after a stand of 93 between Samuels and Sammy had revived West Indies from 73 for five, Russell eventually found himself in the company of last man Cottrell with 24 still needed. But Russell launched Phangiso's left-arm spin for two straight sixes, then settled the match with his fifth, off Abbott, with nine balls to spare. In all, he faced 40 deliveries - and earned the hugs of a grateful Holder, tasting his first victory as captain.
