Ian was born in Stenhousemuir, Scotland but moved to Perth, Western Australia when eleven. In Recent years he has spent six months in either country playing continuous cricket while operating as a professional for various Scottish clubs. However, his first love has always been his home town club of Stenhousemuir. He first played for Scotland in 1986 and has been an outstandingly successful performer for his country having made more appearances for his country than any other player (104), scored more runs than any other Scotland batsman (4054), scored more centuries than any other batsman (10) and made the highest score ever by a Scotland player (234 against M.C.C. in 1991). An elegant batsman he has been the corner stone of the Scottish side throughout his career. He has also kept wicket a number of times for Scotland in one day games. However, his bowling is most definitely of the friendly variety.
