Md Mehedi Hasan: "When is the last time to start a 20 over match? " -- The cut-off time for that is 4.30pm local time, I think.

1.15pm While we wait for updates, let's look at some photographs of Bangladesh's batsmen at the nets (though the Cricket Ireland Twitter handle seems to have mixed up Sabbir Rahman and Tamim Iqbal).

Jon: "Thanks Espncricinfo for posting my comment and @Nitish and @Tanveer I didn't consider those points so thanks. Yes, the conditions can change very quickly throughout the course of a game and Bangladesh did find it difficult to bat early on and WI did find bounce later in the game. It's amazing how quickly conditions can change. I guess some teams will find it difficult to play in the World Cup and adjust according to the conditions. The team that's the most versatile will probably win the Cup."

Farid: "That could be Tamim trying out the "reverse drive"! "

12.55pm It's still hammering down.

Neil Visser: "Third ODI within 2 days in danger of being washed out. I was so disappointed after the England v Pakistan game was abandoned. Please the Gods of weather don't spoil our summer!!"

Tanveer : "@jon: Well its hard to predict the pitches right. WI won the toss and elected to bat right? BD batsmen also found it difficult on the early 10-15 overs. I think the bowling and fielding expedited WI's loss. "

Jack: "I'll say this again if it isn't obvious, the idea of cutting teams to the World Cup to 10 is short-sighted and devalues the aim of growing the game. But I'll still watch religiously cause it's the damn World Cup!" -- It's been said often, but it needs to be said again and again. It's a travesty to only have ten teams.

12.50pm Hello all. It's now my turn to bring you weather updates. Hemant's taken a little break.

Nitish: "@Jon: i think its mainly due to the evolution in the playing conditions especially the pitch. As the game went on, the pitch became harder and made it easier to bat on. The ball came on to the bat very well; in fact, Cottrell and Gabriel found a lot of bounce late in the game. "

Jon: "Tuesday's match between Bangladesh and WI reminded me of the 2017 Champions Trophy semi final match between Eng and Pak in which the team bowling first found it relatively easy to keep the opposition team's run rate down, take wickets, restrict the opposition and bat easily in the second innings where as the other team couldn't do that... it's like they were playing on two different pitches. What can explain this?"

12.20pm This is not looking good. It's pelting down now.

12.10pm Covers are still on, the ground staff in the middle standing around but no sign of umpires. Still rain in the air.

Khayam Zafar: "In my opinion Afghanistan got the best spin attack for this world cup. What you think guys ?" -- Mujeeb for Powerplays, Nabi for middle orders and Rashid for death overs.

Wahiduzzaman: "Hardik Pandia is a great discovery for India, BD does not have that much talented player but Liton Das can be the perfect one."

Rocky: "The sun is out in South Dublin..."

Davin: "It's drying up just to the west of Dublin so hopefully that can make it's way to Malahide. Don't know if it will last all day though so need to start asap If we're going to get much cricket In!"

TasmiaT: "How ironic that we had a complete downpour in London yesterday, washing out the Eng vs Pak game and today the rain has moved to Dublin, while we have relatively calm weather with some chance of the reverse swing here in London. Perhaps we need to set up reserve days for all the World Cup games if the weather promises to continue to be this temperamental." -- Someone from England told me it's just the start of May, where as the World Cup is in June. The weather conditions are expected to be different then.

11.30am There is hardly any change in the conditions. But we have our fingers crossed.

11.05am Live pictures suggest the rain isn't heavy, if there's any. But the big issue I see is that only the square and the bowlers' run-ups are covered. Much of the outfield is open to the elements. A Super Sopper is out and about.

Barry: "Rained in South Leinster this morning but brightened up a lot now - maybe that's on the way to Dublin :)" -- Let's hope so!

Khayam Zafar: "Bangladesh is looking good as a one day unit for this world cup. Settled batting line up plus decent spinners and ok fast bowlers will do well. Proof was comprehensive win against West Indies." -- Yeah, they have a pretty strong squad, and there's a lot of experience in the batting. The one question is whether they have the extra gear to score 350-plus totals on flat pitches, or chase 300-plus targets.

11.00am Nitish: "When do we start losing overs ?" -- One hour after the scheduled start time, or 11.45am, if the lunch break isn't reduced.

Mizan Sohag: "Its a bright sunny day here in Bangladesh. can we move the match in Dhaka. hahahaha?"

Azweer: "If u want the series to happen as such.. shift the games to Chepauk.. not even a single drop of rain for months...!!"

10.45am We're hearing that the rain began just as the umpires were about to go in for an inspection. The covers are still on, and if the rain stops the next inspection should be at around 11.45. Sigh.

Vinod Rajpal: "And in the world of sports, last night was all about Tottenham and their stunning win against Ajax at Asterdam ..... More & More upsets in sports result ; Hope we see Ireland doing the same !!" -- I wouldn't necessarily call Tottenham's win an upset, but yes, a closely contested game today would be great, weather permitting.

10.30am Some bad news. Rain started again before the umpires could even finish the inspection! Covers are coming on.

Bangladesh are coming into this game after a convincing eight-wicket win over West Indies, who in the opening match of the series had defeated Ireland. Here's Isam's preview.
