Jonassen guides Australia to victory

Australia Women pulled through to a four-wicket win in the penultimate over despite a late stumble against West Indies Women at North Sydney Oval.

The victory was set up by Australia's bowlers, who restricted West Indies to 113 after Meg Lanning chose to bat. The visitors had made a sound start, reaching 1 for 62 in the 12th over, when Jess Jonassen broke the 52-run stand between Deandra Dottin and Stafanie Taylor. The innings foundered after that as wickets fell at one end, while Taylor completed a half-century at the other. West Indies slipped from 3 for 98 in 17 overs to 7 for 113 in 20.

Australia made a strong start to their chase, with their openers adding 32 inside five overs. Jonassen had a 50-run stand with Lanning for the second wicket, and at 1 for 82 in the 13th over, the hosts were cruising. West Indies staged a late fightback through offspinners Anisa Mohammed and Hayley Matthews, who took three wickets each. Australia lost five wickets for 26 runs but the collapse had come too late for West Indies. Jonassen was Australia's top scorer with 46 and the last batsman dismissed in the 18th over, six runs short of victory.
