Presentation time. "I don't think it's a wake up call," says Alastair Cook. "We didn't get it quite right today. We did that hard bit getting in but we didn't go on to make the big score that you need. It's not concerning but it's just frustrating. 260 would have been a good effort and we were in a position to do that.

"Boyd Rankin has had a great start this year for Warwickshire and he's tall and we're looking for variety in our seamers. Finn and Broad are a little bit concerning so fingers crossed they'll be okay for later in the series."

Here's McBren: "It is a confidence booster. We knew turning up here that we had an experienced team and we gave ourselves a chance with the ball and it was a superb innings from Martin. The counterattacking from 1 for 2 was pleasing, to have the self-belief to play aggressively.

"Dan Vettori would have played but for injury but Nathan played and put in a great effort, there's still a place for two spinners. We need to give Dan a couple of days to see how his injury is."

The Man of the Match is, of course, Martin Guptill for his superb century, just the second man after Mark Greatbach (who made two tons in 1990) to make an ODI century for New Zealand in England. A fabulous effort, well played sir.

For England it was a pretty stinking day. They turned up in a dreadful new cheap-looking kit with contrasting caps, lost an important toss, played a series of loose strokes and were always chasing the game. Their batting was simply not good enough and their total was a good 40 runs short of par, especially given their bowling attack was shorn of Steven Finn - lethal in the ODIs in New Zealand - and Stuart Broad. Their replacements, Jade Dernbach and Chris Woakes, were pretty ordinary.

What a great innings from Martin Guptill. The New Zealand bowlers had given them a chance for a morale-boosting win and Guptill has led the line wonderfully well and New Zealand have won by five wickets. I mentioned a couple of solid stands was all it would take to break the back of this chase and they got that, recovering from 1 for 2 with a stand of 119 between Guptill and Ross Taylor, who counterattacked with his usual flowing strokeplay. Grant Elliot and James Franklin ensured there would be no slip up and New Zealand have now won three times in ODIs at Lord's.

So Franklin sees out the over and now Guptill on 99, one run to become the second man to score an ODI hundred for New Zealand in England...Tim Bresnan returns...
