Bangladesh coach Jamie Siddons is ecstatic while the New Zealand dressing room is completely distraught after dominating the game until Brendon McCullum's dismissal. That proved to be the turning point for Bangladesh

who never really let the batsmen settle on a sluggish track despite Taylor and Vettori's best efforts. Presentation ceremony shortly, please do stick around. Shakib has to be a shoo in for the Man of the Match after his well-crafted 50 and 4 vital wickets. Bangladesh will regret yet another injury to their captain Mashrafe, hopefully nothing serious after his horrendous knee injury in the West Indies.

Presentations: Ross Taylor wins an award for the best six of the game. Brendon McCullum for the fastest fifty.

Daniel Vettori: 'We had a reasonable start, to restrict them to 230 was a good effort. We expected to win, but we let ourselves down in the second half of our batting effort. Brendon played really well, he gave us impetus but we couldn't back him up.' Gracious as ever but you could sense the disappointment in his voice, especially after he bowled so wonderfully.

Shakib hands over an award for a SMS contest before going to talk as captain in place of Mortaza. Shakib: 'We batted well at the start, kept losing wickets but we thought we had a decent total. Our bowlers bowled really well, the rain went in our favour but our bowlers bowled in good areas. Today was my day but others supported me, it was a team effort. Not sure on Mashrafe, Nazmul is injured too so both our fast bowlers are injured.' Shakib also receives a well-deserved Man of the Match award.

Not a bad game of one-day cricket in the end- a tight finish, some good individual performances from Shakib, Vettori and McCullum, and a victory for the underdog which sets the rest of the series up well. The umpires though may be at the end of a few post-mortems after a few clear mistakes and generally unclear decision-making.

In the end a wonderful day for cricket, with a competitive game here and a truly amazing Test match at Mohali where India triumphed by 1 wicket after needing 90 with 2 wickets in hand, courtesy of an unbeaten 73 from a back-spasm plagued VVS Laxman which will surely rank as one of the finest innings where a batsman has not gone on to make a hundred. Apologies for the technical issues today with both games, we hope to be running smoothly next time. In the meantime, please do join us on Friday for the 2nd ODI at the same venue where Bangladesh will look to continue their winning start while New Zealand will be desperate to avoid going 2-0 down in a series that they set out to sweep. For now though, this is Avi Singh signing off on behalf of all the staff at ESPNcricinfo, hoping you will join us next time and wishing you all luck wherever you are. Thanks for tuning in, goodbye!

Nazmul to Southee, 1 run

drilled back at Nazmul who drops it and appears to have hurt his hand, but it's all academic as Bangladesh have won by 9 runs on D/L method. A quite unbelievable win, particularly considering the start given to New Zealand by Brendon McCullum
