Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
Opener Stafanie Taylor made a memorable start to West Indies women's tour of South Africa by notching up her maiden one-day hundred in a five-wicket win in Paarl.
With West Indies set a modest target of 182, Taylor attacked from the start, scoring 40 of the 56 runs for the first wicket. West Indies lost their third wicket with 91 on the board in the 24th over. Taylor then added 39 with Stacy-Ann King before South African captain Sunette Loubser struck twice to have West Indies at 147 for 5 in 37 overs. But Taylor wrapped up the chase in another 27 balls. Deandra Dottin chipped with 14 off 13 balls. Taylor's unbeaten 108 off 117 balls, at a strike-rate of 93.2, included 11 fours and two sixes. Making her international debut in June last year, 18-year-old Taylor already has three half-centuries each from 18 ODIs and five Twenty20s.
South Africa used seven bowlers in trying to contain Taylor but they would have done better to set West Indies a higher target. Apart from Cri-zelda Brits' 48, no other batsman contributed significantly. West Indies were sharp on the field, effecting three run-outs.
Loubser said South Africa's failure to convert run-outs cost them. "We let ourselves down in the field today, we praise ourselves on our fielding but today our minds were not there," Loubser said. "We always felt that 180 was a good total on this wicket but we let ourselves down when it came to defending the total. We bowled in all of Stafanie's good areas and she capitalised hard on that."
