Another brace of centuries, including a patient 118 by debutant Prashant Naik, allowed Mumbai to declare after posting a mammoth 623 for the loss of six wickets on the second day of their Nissar Trophy match against Karachi Urban. To add to Karachi's woes, Mumbai managed to pick up the wicket of Agha Sabir for 14 to leave the hosts 593 in deficit at the close.
Resuming on the overnight score of 325, Mumbai lost their fourth wicket in the sixth over of the day when Hiken Shah was trapped in front by Uzair-ul-Haq for 47. A second double-century stand of the innings followed as Naik and Abhishek Nayar smashed contrasting centuries to leave Hasan Raza, Karachi's captain, to further rue his decision of fielding first on a flat track. Naik's 118 came off 227 deliveries and included 11 fours and a six while Nayar's aggressive 152 came off 162 balls with 16 fours and three sixes.
The 235-run partnership was finally broken by Raza himself as a loose shot by Naik was caught by Saeed Bin Nasir. Nayar soon followed Naik back in the pavilion when he was caught by Asim Kamal at long-off while trying to loft Anwar Ali.
Mumbai's decision to declare soon after must have come as a big relief to the Karachi bowlers who toiled under the sun for 158 overs. Karachi's openers had a tough job at hand to negotiate the 20 overs before stumps and Sabir's wicket in the 18th over rounded off an excellent day for the visitors.
