a single past midwicket seals it. Full ball on middle stump, steps out, yorks herself and jams an inelegant slog past that fielder to seal back-to-back titles
Strikers vs Heat, Final at Brisbane, WBBL, Dec 08 2019 - Match Result
Heat won by 6 wickets (with 11 balls remaining)
Beth Mooney is the Player of the Match. Like she was in last year's final.
Sophie Devine is the Player of the Tournament.
4:42pm The team's out in the middle, embracing each other. Barring a brief period with the ball in the first innings, this has been a brute of a performance to defend their title. They join Sydney Sixers in the record books for most WBBL titles - they have two each. Beth Mooney at one end to seal it for them too, who has been a rock for them. Nine fifties and she finishes the second-higher run-getter in the tournament. Only two sixes all tournament for her - can you believe? Because all the carnage has happened at the other end. Maddy Green, Jess Jonassen, Grace Harris, a surprise from Sammy-Jo Johnson today, and, of course, Laura Harris, who also hit the winning runs for them last season. This has been a game-changing effort from Heat this season, they've been on another level.
Strikers began decently, but probably fell 15 short because of their collapse in the middle overs. A valiant knock from Wellington kept them in the game, arguably, but it was too little to seriously challenge Heat. Didn't help that Devine, who finishes top-scorer this season with 769 runs, fell early. It was uphill, and they came short against a very good team. Thanks for joining us this season, we'll see you soon.
Scores even. Palpable excitement at the ground, people are hopping about, chanting. One more run for the title...
full on leg stump, steps across, exposes all the stumps and swipes this down to fine leg
full outside off, driven to sweeper cover
full on off stump, pushed back towards the bowler
another run out chance. Full ball just outside off, trickles pitch side as she looks to flick. The non-striker is down the track as the keeper gets to this, but her under-arm flick is too wide of the stumps for the bowler
missed run out! Full and into the stumps, leans in and flicks to deep midwicket. A poor call to come back for the second, made after the fielder has shaped to throw. But the keeper can't gather the throw on the half volley as Mooney dives desperately
full outside off, steps out and drills it along the floor to long-off
Required rate is now 2.00, in case anyone was wondering. Here's Coyte
full slower ball on leg stump, steps out and tickles this fine of short fine leg
slower ball at a length outside off, swept off the inside half towards midwicket
full slower ball on leg. Steps out and looks to flick, cops it on the pad
full slower ball at middle stump, clears the front leg and hammers it on the bounce to long-on
just clears extra cover. full slower ball outside off. Steps out and looks to club it inside out. Loses her shape and ends up slicing it
tossed up slower ball, met on the full and driven to long-on
chopped to clear short third. Short of a length delivery outside off, gets behind the line of that and cuts at it late
full and down leg side. Can't get bat on that after stepping out
misses the free hit. Full slower ball wide outside off. Makes room to try and go through the off side, beaten
It's been called no-ball. That didn't look like it was above waist height, and she had stepped out...
powered to the square leg boundary! Slower ball goes wrong, it's a full toss. She gets low and spanks it over square leg.
picks the wide long-on boundary. Slower ball at a length on middle stump. Steps out and goes with the turn, neatly chipped
slower ball at a length in the corridor. Punched to extra cover's right
Laura Harris is in now.
hits off stump. Length ball, slower ball. Looks to swipe across the line and completely misses that. A struggle comes to an end
