"With the new ball, there was a little bit of seam movement, not too much swing," says Kane Williamson. "We didn't get too much from the spinners but hopefully we can get them some work in the second warm-up game. It was quicker in the first innings than the second innings, it got slower later on. Been a lot of talk about big scores, but if the ball does swing like that, it'll be great. Didn't see the sun as often as I saw today from when I got here. Bowlers had a good hit. New Zealand must have had fun out there, first bowling on the pitch when it was at its most helpful, and then batting on it when it had dried out under the sunshiine. Trent Boult was practically unplayable. Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson were unflappable. Good performance all round, but they will know that this result won't really count for much, if only because such spicy pitches are very unlikely to be seen in the tournament proper

Virat Kohli and his team are in good spirits despite the "loss". The fast bowlers were protected. The spinners, especially Kuldeep, needed some overs under their belt and they've done that, although I think the left-arm spinner is bowling a little slower (70kph) than is ideal in English conditions. Chahal though hit the right pace, somewhere in the 85 kph range and got a lot more purchase off the pitch.
