4.52pm The umpires are running off, because it has started raining again, and with that it's stumps! Today was a day where West Indies reminded India that Test Rankings mean very little, but India's middle-order, too, showed why they are currently the world's best Test team. Ajinkya Rahane's 81 was the standout innings today, while Hanuma Vihari and KL Rahul showed that they belong in this XI. Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel were explosive as always, while Roston Chase showed India that they may have missed a trick not playing R Ashwin on this surface. For now, we'll see you tomorrow, where play will start 30 minutes early. On behalf of Hemant Brar, this is Sreshth Shah signing off on day one. Hope you enjoyed ESPNcricinfo's coverage.

4.49pm False alarm! The covers are coming back on, despite no rain at the moment.

Ankit: "I don't get the fuss about longer tails. If you can depend on four pure bowlers for half of the game (bowling), you should certainly be able to depend on six pure batsmen for the other half (batting)."

4.46pm The rain has stopped. Brighter skies as the groundstaff begin to peel the covers off. The umpires are having a stroll.

Gary Monteiro: "Pant will probably be like Sehwag. Sehwag too was an attacking batsman who found the Test format the most suitable. Yes he was good in the other two but it was in Tests that he could win matches by just batting the opposition out in the 1st 2 sessions "

4.38pm This is a bit comical. The groundstaff ran into the field expecting the rain, but the umpires asked them to go back because one more ball was left in the over. But just as the groundstaff were retreating, the skies opened up, and the players are now off due to rain!

Over twenty overs to go on day one, but it's highly unlikely we'll see too many more overs today.

Kumar Roshan: "Is it me only who thinks that - Pant will turn out as better test batsman than limited overs batsman."

Vaibhav Mittal: "For a brief moment in time India batted very deep with the likes of Ashwin, Ishant and Bhuvi. But with the like of Kuldeep, Chahal and Bumrah in the mix makes me worry about the tail in all formats of the game. Should we start expecting bowlers to do more than just go wham-bam?"
