Time for the presentation...

Southee is also the Man of the Match: There have been couple of great games in front of great crowds. It got close but we back our batsmen all the way down, a little bit of luck went our way. It was pleasing to see Tom Bruce do well in his first game. Colin has been impressive in this series and it was pleasing to see Seth Rance bounce back the way he did. We have to do an injury check and see who's available for the next game.

Malinga: We tried our best and the young players put on a decent score, but there were some mistakes so we lost. We're still really happy with the fighting effort, that's how we want to go in the future. I want to thank all those who supported us. There's still one game to go. We want to give freedom to youngsters to play their natural game, they're learning how to play T20s and I want young players to show they're made for international cricket. I think Mendis and Jayasuriya are all right after the injuries and should play the next match.

That's all we have from the second T20I today, it's a series win for New Zealand, a lot of things to think about for Sri Lanka, including their fielding, before the last match of the series on Friday. Catch us again that day, and if there are any injury updates on Bruce, Guptill, Mendis or Jayasuriya, you will see them on our homepage, as usual. Thanks for tuning in, it's goodbye and good luck from Vishal Dikshit, Ankur Dhawan and Raghav.

10.33pm After two phases of nervy moments - first in the Powerplay when Akila Dananjaya bowled and then towards the end when de Grandhomme and Bruce were dismissed - New Zealand have sealed the series with one match to go. The credit for today goes to de Grandhomme and Bruce, their partnership fetched 109 in under 15 overs after New Zealand were 38 for 3 with Martin Guptill not available to bat. Isuru Udana, who conceded 38 in the first T20I, was among the best bowlers today but the question is why Malinga made him bowl only three overs. It went down to a close finish and Mitchell Santner eventually struck a six and a four to end with 10 off the two balls he faced. He will show that strike rate of 500 to his grandchildren, won't he?

De Grandhomme: I had it pretty well in the Test match and wanted to carry on from there. T20 is hard to bowl anyway so not having to bowl is not bad anyway. One of the guys there in RCB helped me prepare against spin. A bit nervous in the last couple of overs but we knew we were only one hit away and T20 is like that anyway

Hasaranga to Santner, FOUR runs

slightly short and Santner has pulled that wide of long-on again and New Zealand take the series 2-0

Both Kusal Mendia and Jayasuriya were down on the field for a long time, they're now being carried away from the boundary rope for some treatment. Scores level, one to go with the field in

19.3
6
Hasaranga to Santner, SIX runs

there's a collision at wide long-on boundary, one fielder has taken the catch, he has crossed over the boundary, it might be a six, and both fielders are down after the collision! The crowd has gone silent. So Mendis ran to his right from deep midwicket, and Jayasuriya to his left from long-on to take a great catch, then came the collision and he tumbled over but his foot touched the boundary rope with the ball still in his hand. Since he still had the ball in his hand, it should actually be a six but the umpire has signalled four. And a few minutes later it's been changed to six

Santner and Southee out there, neither has faced a delivery yet. New Zealand need seven from four

Prasad: "Brilliant work by hasaranga."

W
Hasaranga to Mitchell, OUT

oh my word, Sri Lanka fight back with a legspinner bowling the last over! Mitchell has holed out to long on. Mitchell wanted a big hit, he got a length delivery outside off and swung it against the turn on the leg side, but hardly got the distance, making it an easy catch a few yards inside the boundary at long-on

Daryl Mitchell c sub (LD Madushanka) b Hasaranga 1 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 33.33

End of a really good and steady innings, Santner comes out

19.1
W
Hasaranga to Mitchell, OUT

we have a run out first ball and it's Tom Bruce! Mitchell bunted the short and quick ball back to the bowler who turned around quickly and hit the stumps at his end because Bruce was a long way down, eager to take strike

Tom Bruce run out (Hasaranga) 53 (46b 3x4 0x6) SR: 115.21

Seven needed from six. Remember, Bruce is unlikely to take two quick runs and they wouldn't want to leave it for the last ball. So they need a boundary. The ball has been given to Hasaranga

Udana to Bruce, 1 run

finds long-off after a bounce. He went across and slammed that wide delivery down the ground with a swing

Tom Bruce is in trouble with some cramps now. He's on the ground and getting some attention. He's got them so far, de Grandhomme has departed so will be desperate to see them through. The physio is now putting tsome tape around Bruce's right knee. It could be that he hurt his knee while or after turning for the second run on the last ball because he went down immediately after completing the run. Bruce is back up now, putting his pad back, he'll be batting soon

Asfaq: "Anyone tell me, why Guptill is not used by New Zealand?" He picked up an injury while fielding

fullish on off and he uses soft hands to push the ball to long-off, oh my, another fumble from Sri Lanka and New Zealand get two

Udana to Bruce, FOUR runs

goes a long way across to off and swipes that back of the hand slower ball against the angle, from well outside off, between square leg and short fine leg. Excellent placement and connection

Now 15 from 10, Daryl Mitchell the new batsman but Bruce is on strike after crossing over

Saf: "Will it be a turning point !"

W
Udana to de Grandhomme, OUT

he holes out to deep cover. He was probably thinking of a boundary to get the equation down to run a ball. Udana pitched it wide, from short of length, de Grandhomme swung hard but the ball was so far from him that he couldn't quite middle it and handed an easy one to Avishka Fernando who threw the ball in the air in celebration and roared with the crowd

Colin de Grandhomme c Fernando b Udana 59 (46b 2x4 3x6) SR: 128.26

The crowd his getting behind their team. Two fielders in the deep on leg, and there are two short third mans

wide yorker well outside off and he steers it away wide of short third man for two in the gap

It's down to 17 from 12, very much gettable in T20s. But you know what else can happen in T20s. Malinga has a chat with Udana, who will bowl only his third over now. A spinner for the last over?
