Full commentary

9.15pm West Indies have begun the Kieron Pollard era with a comprehensive victory. But that isn't to say they weren't challenged at all. In the field, a century stand from Ikram Alikhi and Rahmat Shah kept them at bay and threatened to leave them with a more challenging chase, but they found a way past them to restrict Afghanistan to below 200. Then they lost two wickets early, but found saviours in Roston Chase and Shai Hope. The pair steadied the innings, chipped away slowly, and once in, ensured they got the job done. For now, this is Shashank Kishore saying goodbye on behalf of Hemant Brar. Hope to see you on November 9 for match two of this series.

Roston Chase is Man of the Match for his 94 and 2 for 31. "Pitch was offering some assistance, worked in my favour. Fingers were working today, so it was my day. I wanted to have fun with the ball. Captain told me a couple of days before the game that I should look to bat deep and bat like I do in a Test if I get a chance early, did just that."

Kieron Pollard: Losing early wickets and not batting 50 overs is something that has been haunting us for a long time. Two guys showed the way - Hope and Chase. Both of them are class batsmen, kudos to them for batting well and getting us victory. We've been talking about how we want to play cricket. Express ourselves, who better than Jason Holder, who continues to prove he wants to be the No. 1 format. Supported well by Sheldon. Then Shepherd and Hayden Walsh were superb. We want to play every game with the same intensity.

Rashid Khan: Looked like a 240-250 wicket. Had we bowled or fielded well, we could've defended it. Ikram and Rahmat gave us a few opportunities, but we didn't capitalise. Credit to them. Every match is a lesson and we've to learn from it. We'll take the positives from here, looking to improve from here.

Mujeeb to Chase, OUT

would you believe it? Chase is gone looking for a glory hit. Saw this dropped short and looked to deposit it into the stands at deep midwicket to get his century. Instead, he sees the bails rattled as he was too early into the pull. The ball just didn't come on and his wait for a maiden ton continues. What a brilliant knock it has been nonetheless.
