Full, outside off, bit of a googly and defended back to cover... and now then... we've got a check for a run out. Kate Cross fields and throws at the nonstriker's end where Kulasuriya was being a bit absent-minded returning to her crease... and she's gone! She's watched the ball hit the stumps with her bat hovering over the line but not grounded! Astonishingly bad cricket from Sri Lanka! Great arm from Cross!
S Lanka (W) vs ENG Women, 2nd ODI at Northampton, ENG-W v SL-W, Sep 12 2023 - Match Result
5.12pm: Match abandoned, the officials have finally conceded defeat to the elements. Sri Lanka were looking in pretty sorry shape before the rain set in, and might feel they've sneaked away with the best result possible. England remain 1-0 up with just the final ODI, in Leicester on Thursday, to play. We'll be back for that, of course. Thanks for your messages today, from myself and Vish, Harshisth and Manoj, it's goodnight and good luck. Bye!
5.10pm: Still chucking it down. Pretty sure the SL innings is now done, and if they get out again it will just be a case of how many England require after adjustments for DLS. Although that's a big "if"
Valkerie adds this: "The ground staff must be expecting the wind to pick up even more... they're weighting down the covers. As they walk, water is sloshing up from under foot and there's visible puddles just beyond the covers"
4.45pm: "The three spectators still out in the stands with umbrellas up have just been advised over the PA to seek cover as 'there's some lightning about'," reports Valkerie. "Rain heavy now too." I hope that newly engaged couple have gone home for a glass of fizz
4.35pm: Still nice weather for ducks at Wantage Road - and the luck is no better for Northamptonshire's men, who haven't managed to get on the field at all today up at Edgbaston, as they battle to avoid relegation from Division One of the County Championship
4.10pm: Another update from Valkerie: "After a brief (and possibly optimistic) moment of looking like the skies might brighten up again, the ground is enveloped in gloom once more. Umbrellas up round the ground, it's fairly constant. Rain looking slightly heavier now too."
"Has Lauren Bell been dropped or just rested?" She has been unwell, Paul. Initially missed the first couple of T20Is and then ruled out of the rest
3.50pm: Not much to report from Northampton, where the showers continue to pass through. The covers are parked out in the middle and the picture is pretty bleak for now
But there is live ODI action out there, both in South Africa, where Aiden Markram has just notched a hundred from the last ball of the innings against Australia; and in Colombo (where it's not raining - shock horror), as India have start well in their attempts to defend a target of 214
3.30pm: First, the good news: Valkerie Baynes is getting chicken kebabs and potato wedges for afternoon tea at Wantage Road. But there's bad news to follow: "There is a huge dark cloud hanging overhead, although it's not raining particularly heavily at the moment." Valkerie then adds: "All covers down now and the sky is getting darker." Sky, meanwhile, have switched to the ODI in Potchefstroom - which might be your best bet, too
3.14pm Bigger covers being dragged on now to protect the bowler's run-ups and the rest of the square. Those spectators sat in uncovered stands are now on the hunt for cover
Delay in play! Rains have arrived, and it's the heaviest its been during the game so the umpires have taken the players off and the covers are coming on. The 30-minute delay at the start means we will be losing overs immediately...
Fuller, Perera sweeps but mistimes as the ball squirts out behind square on the leg side
Top edge runs away for four! Perera thinks about advancing but decides to stay put and cross-bat a length delivery, but crouches down too far and ends up skewing over the keeper. Still, four all the same...
Length delivery, bit of turn into off stump, played back down to the bowler off the back foot
Around the wicket, flighted into off stump, defended down the pitch
Sharp, into the hip of the left-hander, blocked out to square leg
Left-hander Achini Kulasuriya is the new batter
Inevitable! Smart bowling from Filer, full and straighter than the previous 4 deliveries, Prabodhani has a swing and edges through to Jones
Fuller, wide of the stumps, left alone once more
Same again, this time Prabodhani thinks about going after it but brings the bat under her arm like it's a newspaper she's not quite finished reading
Short, wide, left alone
Into the hip, timed out to the fielder at deep midwicket for a single. Perera might as well farm the strike to be honest
Rinse and repeat
Full, no turn, defended straight
Muted LBW appeal as Prabodhani gets in a slight tangle as Glenn angles into middle and leg. Bat first though
Flighted full, straight, defended back down the pitch
Incredible work from Sciver-Brunt! Charge and sweep from Perera as she mullers a good length high and handsome... Sciver-Brunt does brilliantly to catch, but the momentum is taking her over the sponge. No hope for chucking it to herself so she just flings it back into play. Smart work
Flighted, on off stump, blocked into the covers
Oooooooo just misses the stumps! Prabodhani backs away, Filer isn't as short and off stump gets a trimming
Another full toss, but gets away with this one as Perera guides straight to the fielder at third. And that's Sri Lanka's 100 up - the second fifty has taken 114 deliveries...
Onto the hip, Perera diverts once more to midwicket, but straight to the fielder
