Scorecard

Charlie Hemphrey's maiden first-class ton in his fifth match revived Queensland from a wobbly position, and put them on course for a sizable first-innings lead over South Australia at the Gabba. By the time stumps were drawn, the home side were already ahead by 124 runs, with Ben Cutting and Cameron Boyce adding 29 unbroken runs for the ninth wicket.

Resuming on 3 for 59, Hemphrey and Peter Forrest had begun cautiously in the morning, surviving a number of close shouts, but going to lunch unscathed on 132. By the time Forrest fell to a sharp catch in the slips off Mark Cosgrove in the 46th over of the day, the two had added 122 runs. Hemphrey was involved in another meaty partnership, allying with Chris Hartley for 64 runs.

Despite Hemphrey and Hartley being dismissed in fairly quick succession,Queensland found a way to move forward, with Jack Wildermuth, who scored 42, and captain James Hopes forging a 66-run partnership, before Trent Lawford removed them in the space of two deliveries. Lawford and Nick Benton ended with three wickets apiece.

"It was a case of doing the hard work and then cashing in when the bowling got a little tired,"Hemphrey told AAP. "It was even overnight and the first session today was important, it was good that we got through that. It certainly put the ball in our court."
