Holland six gives Victoria big lead

Left-arm spinner Jon Holland picked up his maiden six-for to derail Tasmania's reply after Victoria, led by captain Matthew Wade's ton, amassed 449 in Alice Springs. Victoria, in their second innings, lost Rob Quiney in the fourth over, before going to stumps with a lead of 351 runs.

Tasmania couldn't capitalise on a solid start provided by Dom Michael and Ben Dunk, who put on 65 runs, and slumped from 1 for 90 to 5 for 96 in less than four overs, Holland removing Jordan Silk, Beau Webster and Michael Hill. The visitors were on a free fall as they were reduced to 9 for 108 eventually. Only a 37-run stand for the last wicket between Jackson Bird and Clive Rice helped Tasmania avoid further ignominy. Holand, whose scalps included three caught-and-bowled dismissals, was well supported by Scott Boland, who finished with three wickets.

Holland had a part to play with the bat as well in the morning, after Victoria, resuming on 5 for 334, lost three wickets in 13 overs, Daniel Christian falling in the eighth ball of the day. Coming in to bat at No.10, Holland, who made 33 off 81 balls, gave overnight batsman Wade company, as the latter notched up his ninth first-class century. Their 60-run stand was terminated by Clive Rose when he had Wade caught behind for 101 from 197 balls.

Holland then added a further 33 runs for the last wicket with Fawad Ahmed, who remained unbeaten on 21 from 15 balls. Andrew Fekete claimed his second five-wicket haul for Tasmania.

A win for Victoria will guarantee their spot in the title decider.
