length ball angling into him and pulled off the back foot through deep backward square leg! Short finishes on 82 and the Strikers win by 29 balls to spare!
Hurricanes vs Strikers, 34th Match at Adelaide, BBL, Jan 05 2022 - Match Result
Strikers won by 7 wickets (with 29 balls remaining)
And that ends the Adelaide Strikers' six-match losing streak. Will this be the trigger that turns their season around? The points table makes for very interesting viewing. See you tomorrow for the moveable feast that is the Big Bash League!
Matt Short is the Player of the Match despite Siddle's five for. Actually think he deserves it too. "Good to come off with the win," he says. "The go-to shots are coming off at the moment. I want to use my height, my levers, well. This sort of target can be tricky at times but we got a few early and that kept the pressure low. Credit to Peter for another five-for, unbelievable in T20 cricket. Few early wickets for us helped and we closed out well. Huge win. The boys were getting a little bit flat after a few close losses. Good to beat a good team and get the season underway again."
9.41pm The Strikers, who were last before the game, have claimed four points and also given their NRR a big boost too. Matt Short started the game with the ball and ended the game with the bat. In between, an all-round contribution from the Strikers. Captain Peter Siddle showed his experience with the wet ball, taking a five-wicket haul. Rashid Khan took 2 for 26 too. Harry Conway and Wes Agar were economical too. A short note on Hunt and Renshaw too, both playing according to the game's situation with Short batting so well.
two in two? Not given. Full on off. Googly turns in sharply. Weatherald is slow to get forward and defend. Hits the pad. But not given out
Finally, a smile on D'Arcy Short. Seen too little of it all season
midwicket grabs it! Half-tracker on leg. Googly turns across. Wells gets low, and looks to pierce the gap with a flat-batted shot through the leg side, but Owen dives and takes a tough one
full toss, about chest high since Wells has gone low to try and premeditate a sweep. Ends up getting some bat on it, but top-edged. Nonetheless, no man's land at fine leg for a boundary
good length, on middle. Rocks back and thumps the googly with a pull to deep midwicket
bit of a grubber. Googly lands on a length on middle. He tries to muscle a shot off the back foot to the leg side but the ball stays low, turns past the stumps, to the keeper
good length on middle. Turning into him. Pulled off the back foot to the deep
length ball outside off but jagging into off stump. Worked off his waist to square leg for one
Taha Bilal: "Can they take powersurge now !? " -- They should, shouldn't they? High NRR always good but maybe they think they can score quicker if the infield isn't as packed.
full just outside off stump. Pushed to mid off off the front foot
good length, outside off stump. Punched to deep point for one
full toss on leg stump. Clipped to the leg side
full on off stump. Bit of a front-foot tap back to the bowler
Harry: "Any explanation on the Weatherald demotion?" -- Wells has been a bit out of form, so why not give him a hit and allow him to finish the game unbeaten?
full on off, and the on-drive finds midwicket
thick edge but falls short of short third man, and then it turns past him. Runs further away for four. Good length ball outside off, and he tried to cut the legbreak. Sandeep wins the battle but Short gets the runs
full outside off. Leans forward and smacks a drive past cover. David at long off has to run to his left for a bit to stop the four
length ball on off. Goes deep in his crease and tucks it past the square leg umpire. Bit of a misfield from the infielder trying to slide across and intercept
full outside off. Googly. Pushed to cover, who dives to his left to stop
Sisir: "@Dylan : Yes Short 5th highest run getter but with under 100 strike rate, which is a crime for top order batsman and that matter a lot in T20 .. MP Stoinis has 98 strike rate though.."
full outside off stump. Drives the legbreak to deep extra cover
Jono Wells walks in instead of Weatherald
that's high and David from long on runs in to end Renshaw's knock. Full on off stump. The googly is turning across and Renshaw looks to play against the spin. Top-edge, into orbit, and David has bucket hands anyway
around the stumps. Full on middle, and angling into leg. Renshaw wants to tap it leg side but grazes his pad to short fine leg
