11.38pm Rahul Dravid is pumped. Daredevils are too. Mishra undoes his batting effort against RCB by winning them one. What a game, what a finish. Shreyas Iyer will take away so much from this game, and I'm not talking just about his 96. That was a special knock in a tough chase. he hit the highest number of fours in an innings this season. Lions kept chipping away, but some of their bowling was tear-your-hair-out stuff. Their fielding was both exceptional and not-so-good too. It all adds up in a game of fine margins. That was a great game nonetheless.

Shreyas Iyer, the Man of the Match: "I'd have been more happy with finishing the game. I wasn't thinking much about my hundred, i decided at the start I would bat till the end. Hundred doesn't matter, winning the game does. I was just trying to time the ball, was getting the ball in my areas. two matches left, let's hope I get two more Man of the Matches."

Zaheer Khan: "Feels really good to fall on the right side of the result. It's understandable, felt the energy was low, out of the playoffs but we're a professional side. You have to take these things stride and keep working harder. We'd want to win both games, finish on a high. As a team, everything needs to come together."

Suresh Raina: We tried everything. Iyer batted really well. Every over they got 12-14 runs, that was our mistake. Losing a lot of close games. I enjoyed the game. Wicket played really well later on, gave them too many loose balls.

Basil Thampi to Mishra, FOUR runs, and that's that. Wow. Mishra does it. Wild finish. Not a bad delivery that, a slow, loopy full toss on middle. Mishra chooses a scoop, gets it fine. Fine leg is back, gets across but can't stop the ball. It rolls away into the boundary. And Daredevils have won. Sensational finishing from Mishra.
Basil Thampi to Mishra, FOUR runs, that's four. Great batting. Anticipated the yorker so came down again and flicked the ball past midwicket for four. Why is midwicket up? Especially to a lower-order batsman

That's the best part of defending high totals, you're never quite out of it because teams have to keep going. Mishra is the new man. Lions in front, me thinks. This ball is reversing. Full and straight?

Basil Thampi to Iyer, OUT, he makes up for it. A lovely yorker. Full outside off. A low full toss, swinging back in. Iyer inside-edges his flick into middle stump. End of a special innings. That late movement does for the batsman. Reverse swing.

SS Iyer b Basil Thampi 96 (83m 57b 15x4 2x6) SR: 168.42

Basil Thampi to Iyer, 2 leg byes, 139 kph, full on the pads, clipped down to fine leg. Off the pad. Iyer has to come back for two. Thampi is close to the stumps but doesn't go to the stumps. That could have been a run-out if he did. That's extremely low game awareness from Thampi. Out with a direct hit.

Last over. Iyer on strike. 9 to get. 8 for a Super Over. Iyer on 96. Thampi to bowl.

Faulkner to Mohammed Shami, no run, a good yorker to finish. Full and straight, skewed back to the bowler. Fantastic over from Faulkner.
Faulkner to Mohammed Shami, FOUR runs, a misfield. A misfield that costs Lions three runs. A thick outside edge off the full toss goes towards short third man. It spins on him and beats him on his left. Wow, what a moment. Soni the fielder

Can Faulkner beat the bat? Or get a wicket. Midwicket is back. Third man up. A wide slower ball?

Faulkner to Iyer, 1 run, excellent bowling. A low full toss, drilled to long-on, on the bounce
Faulkner to Iyer, no run, this is even better. Full and straight from Faulkner, driven back to faulkner who stops the ball in his follow-through

They crossed so Iyer on strike. Lions race in front if they get Iyer out in the next few balls. A single not a bad result for Lions.

Samraat: "DD last 4 matches. 67/allout ,chased 186,chased 209,66/allout and again they are about to chase 196 once again."

Faulkner to Cummins, OUT, there is that wicket. Lions not out of this just yet. Fullish on middle, it was full, but too full to get underneath that. He hits it well but finds Smith at long-on. A big wicket. Lions can attack one end now

PJ Cummins c Smith b Faulkner 24 (22m 13b 2x4 1x6) SR: 184.61

Faulkner to Iyer, 1 run, better bowling, better field placement. If you're bowling full, have your straight men on the boundary. Full and wide, drilled to long-off

Lions need a wicket in the first half of this over. Otherwise this will get away quickly.

Nizam khan: "" GL continues they legacy on lossing while batting first in 12 matches and 1 win from against DD in last year: Poor bowling strategy from Raina""

Basil Thampi to Iyer, 1 run, not a bad ball. Iyer goes right across in his crease, Thampi looks for the lbw. But Iyer gets bat on it, down to fine leg for one.

V: "On some days it feels like DD has the best batting lineup. Aggressive young Indian guys like Pant, Iyer, Samson. On other days they get bowled out for under 70. 1 extremely important thing missing with these youngsters is consistency."

Basil Thampi to Cummins, 1 run, good yorker. On off, jammed out to long-on

Kishore: "Gone are those days where we use to consider Gayle,Rohit,Yuvi,D Smith,Y Pathan as big hitters ,. Its all the young blood this IPL. Iyer,Samson,Tripati,Rane & Rishab !"

Basil Thampi to Cummins, 2 runs, a flat-batted muscular hit past the bowler for a couple more

SandeepKamani: "After last game between these 2 teams. Raina:'It was Pant day'. After this game. Raina:'It was Iyer day'."

Basil Thampi to Iyer, 1 run, full and straight, that was in the slot too. Flicked to deep square leg for one more. Iyer on 93
Basil Thampi to Cummins, 1 run, a yorker on leg, excellent delivery. Worked away to deep square leg

mak8874: "52 runs has been scored of just 19 balls ,,, what a partnership "

Pudota: "I don't always understand why you don't want batsmen to play more shots just because they got runs in that over. They still need to get runs and should take few risks to get them. So, why not take the risk when you hammered the bowler already and he's low on confidence."

Basil Thampi to Cummins, 2 runs, full on leg, shovelled to deep midwicket. Two more. Midwicket is up with Cummins only looking to go over him. Bad captaincy

Highest T20 score for Iyer. Thampi.

17 | 21 Runs | DC: 173/6 (23 runs required from 18 balls, RR: 10.17, RRR: 7.66)

Faulkner to Iyer, FOUR runs, four more. Wow, wow, wow. Makes room for himself, gets a full, straight delivery. And Iyer muscles a drive past mid-off for four. I'm not sure why Faulkner is bowling full with mid-off up, but all credit to Iyer for making room and enabling that stroke. Brilliant. Out-thinking the bowler
Faulkner to Iyer, 2 runs, a low full toss on off, pushed to mid-off. Finch has a shy at the bowler's end, hits and concedes the extra off the ricochet
Faulkner to Iyer, SIX runs, what a shot. Iyer is on a roll. Full on off, he gets down and lifts the ball with a straight bat over long-off. Massive six again. May or may not have been out if the boundaries were back, but this is exceptional timing

Iyer's best

Shreyas Iyer's previous highest score in T20s, for Mumbai against Vidarbha in the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Weak defence

Number of wins for Gujarat Lions while batting first in 12 matches in their two IPL seasons. That win, by one run, came against Delhi Daredevils last year.
