cometh the match, cometh the Super Kings, they are going home to play Delhi Daredevils in the fight for the final. The last ball is a quick one and it hits the pads, a tame end to Mumbai Indians' campaign.
CSK vs MI, Elimination Final at Bengaluru, IPL, May 23 2012 - Ball by Ball Commentary
11.50 pm Thanks George, Bravo and Dhoni will be contenders for the man of the match.
Herschelle Gibbs on Twitter: "Guess its london on sat then...see u soon durham for the t20 comp! Yes pls..." Wonder if Gibbs' presence would have made a difference tonight.
Contrasting emotions then...here is what Scott Styris says: "My bags are packed I'm ready to go! I'm standing here outside the door! The taxis waiting he's blowing his horn!Well best I unpack! Hell yeah"
Presentation:
Dhoni: We were just watching and enjoying the games when we were done with our league stage, all the results went our way. Maybe I should keep my hair longer if it can get me the runs, but a lot of credit to Badri and Hussey. Badri is an unsung hero, later me and Bravo could do well with the bat. The helicopter shot was because of the tennis ball cricket, used to play from 17-18 yards and the bowlers sent down a lot of yorkers but not an easy shot to play either, could end up hitting the ankles as well!
Harbhajan: Obviously, we are disappointed, but cannot change the result, CSK played like champions, Dhoni's innings was the game-changer, took it away from us. We could not do too much about his innings, we have not achieved as much as we should have. The reason for removing myself from the attack was to get RP Singh a bowl, first ball he bowled, the edge should have gone to hand and missed.
Dhoni is also the man of the match.
Chennai have now moved on to take on Delhi in the second Qualifier and by the virtue of this win have made a direct qualification for the Champions League T20. That is it from me, Suneer Chowdhary and on behalf of George Binoy, signing off for tonight. We will back with the live commentary of the second Qualifier on Friday, till then, have a good time!
11.45 pm Fireworks light up the night sky in Bangalore. The Super Kings may have sneaked into the playoffs but the stormed the Chinnaswamy tonight. They started terribly, losing Vijay and Raina off consecutive deliveries, but recovered through Hussey and Badri before Dhoni and Bravo launched a memorable assault on a hapless Mumbai attack.
Bravo: "Batting with Mahi makes my job easier, I know his ability to trike the ball. It wasn't a typical Bangalore wicket. We were very pleased with it .... Two days ago he [Pollard] sent me a message asking me to pack my bags and go home ...it was my turn today to tell him."
Suneer will bring you the presentation, that's it from me tonight. Cheers, and thank you for the emails.
hit off the back foot through cover
Oracle: "Tip for MI: Get another big match player outside Pollard and Please Please bat him up the order." that's a tip for next season.
bowled him! Malinga moved outside leg stump and tried to heave across the line, the ball thudded into his back leg and on to leg stump
makes room by moving towards leg and plays towards point
gets down on one knee and slogs the ball into the gap at deep midwicket
that's hit hard and flat to the bowler, Jadeja fails to hold on to the catch, it was a tough chance
he's hit that well, driven with a lot of power wide of the fielder at long off
in the air but short of the fielder running in and sliding from extra cover, Malinga mis-timed the slog over the off side
short ball, Malinga swings and hits it into the stands beyond the midwicket boundary. Too late, too little
driven to long on for a single
in the blockhole outside off, dug out on the off side
good length wide outside off stump, Malinga swings in vain
Pollard tries to hammer a short ball from wide outside off stump, he ends up mis-hitting it high in the air towards long-on, where Raina settles under the catch and takes it. A great moment between the two Trinidadians, Bravo seemed to be telling Pollard to get on a plane. Mumbai Indians are outta here. Pollard took that little send off well, and there were smiles at the end of it. He and Bravo get along.
Malinga moves towards leg and hits the ball flat toward deep cover
Pollard moved towards the off side and got into position to scoop, Bravo bowled a slower full toss, and Pollard did not time it well, he played it to short fine leg
Malinga backs away and swings a length ball through midwicket
a perfect yorker, Pollard digs it out back to the bowler, Bravo stoops on his follow through and the ball goes off his hand on the leg side, Pollard gives Malinga the strike
that was too wide outside off, had Pollard let it go, it might have been called. But he reached for it and hit it with the toe end back to the bowler
The asking rate is 21 an over, for three overs. A task for Hercules.
he backs away again and tries to hook a short ball, this time he is beaten
Malinga backs away and slogs at a short of a length ball, bashing it over the fielder at mid-off, the ball bounces just before the boundary
