and thats the end of that! Kallis just pushes the ball into the gap between cover and point to seal a fantastic win for Bangalore, their third on the trot
MI vs RCB, 28th match at Johannesburg, May 03 2009, Indian Premier League
RCB won by 9 wickets (with 11 balls remaining)
Well now, they just galloped home. Kallis began with a bang, settled down, and never looked back. Uthappa was sent in at No. 3 and took his time before opening his shoulders. Both have half-centuries in a 126-run partnership. Mumbai have been beaten soundly. Dillon du Preez set this up with two in two balls on IPL debut, added a third, and though Bravo and Nayar hit some quick runs to get Mumbai to 149, in the end we've seen an awesome chase. There were 11 balls to spare. After what seems like ages we have a one-sided chase. Teams have struggled to chase 150 or thereabouts but Kallis and Uthappa made it seem so simple. Bangalore are proving they are a side to watch out for and Vijay Mallya looks chuffed. Good on Bangalore.
Just a few moments till we get you the post-match stuff. Tough call for Man of the Match. du Preez, Kallis, Uthappa? I'm going for Kallis because of a tidy spell opening the attack, then how he took on Malinga for those two sixes, and most importantly how he stayed there to finish the job.
One thing is for sure, Anil Kumble will he a happy man after being appointed captain. Once they got rid of that Kevin Pietersen this side look so different.
Right. The Man of the Match is indeed Kallis.
The IPL is split wide open now. Getting very tight for the semi-finals. Bangalore have jumped to fourth. Mumbai have slipped from third to sixth today.
So thats ends my contribution for the evening. Thanks for your company. We have just one game tomorrow, between Deccan and Chennai at East London. Bye for now!
Jayasuriya's turn to feel the heat. Clean hitting from Uthappa. He's back! Scores are tied.
massive shot! Uthappa clears the leg and heaves this over midwicket
full and flat and hammered like a rocket down past mid-on
slogs the slower ball up into the air, its a miscue but somehow he picks the gap between deep midwicket and wide long-on
creates some room and drives the ball inside-out past extra cover
fired in flat and Kallis drives it back to the bowler
uses his feet and drives the full toss down to long-on for two
Malinga has again been played well. Sixteen needed from 18 balls.
pitched up and Kallis threads the gap at cover for one more
slower bouncer, well done, Kallis is early into the pull and beaten
walks right down to meet the ball on the full and drives to long-on
again he leans into a square drive out to the deep where Rahane dives, they run hard and get three more
slinging yorker down leg stump, Uthappa swings and misses and that one was going on to miss leg stump, as Malinga appeals the batsmen pinch a leg-bye
pitched up and Kallis plays another easy square drive for a single
Bangalore look a transformed side with these two firing. Both have played well. Malinga is back.
flatter, fuller and hit with hard hands down wide of mid-on
slower ball and Kallis pushes off the front foot to cover
tosses it up and Uthappa makes room to bash this one but he doesn't time it and ends up dragging it with an inside edge to square leg
flighted wider and he drives hard down to long-off for one
slower ball, middle and off, and pushed back by Kallis
flat on the stumps and he drives inside-out past backward point
Sanath comes on but its too late.
What a partnership. Precious little separates the teams on the points table now.
another little piece of finesse from Uthappa raises a fifty very, very overdue half-century for Bangalore! He again uses the pace and with soft hands glides the ball between gully and backward point and even third man cannot cut it off, well played Uthappa
