Phew! What a game, Alfonso's all-round effort has ensured Somerset sneak home by one wicket. Deccan were around 20-30 short, but they've given their best in their attempt to defend this. "I cannot believe, I've done that," says Thomas. Somerset were reeling at 99 for 7 - they had lost six for 49 - but that stand between Hildreth and Thomas brought them back. With five needed off the last over, and Hildreth on strike, it seemed they had it covered but Styris fought back with two wickets. He gave away a freebie off the fourth ball of the over, and a short one off the final ball wasn't the best ball either. Thomas, amid all this, held his nerve and saw his team to a thrilling win. So, all three IPL teams have tasted defeat in their first game of he competition, and the overseas teams have made an immediate impression.

Alfonso Thomas, unsurprisingly, is the Man of the Match

Thomas: "The jobs are done, we've got to keep our feet on the ground though. Myself and Hildreth were saying lets keep it to the last over. Fidel Edwards taken off was a big blow for them."

Gilchrist: "Can't break that duck here. Fought back really well but Somerset played really well. We were about 40 short, on this great pitch. The ball got damp later on, that was unfortunate with Edwards at the end. Styris bowled well at the end, it's a fast game, that's what you love about it. There's still life in this competition for us, the crowd have supported us throughout. "

Langer: "It was great to play a game like this, in front of this crowd and this great stadium. It just shows the character of the team, this win. We've had a couple of fantastic years in county cricket, and we've also won a lot of close games like these. We've got a big game against Trinidad coming up. There are still areas where we can improve, but to win this is a big confidence-boost for us."

An absolute entertainer, this match after three consecutive one-sided affairs - two yesterday and one today - and may we have more ones like this in the days to come. Thanks for tuning in and sending us your feedback. Join us again tomorrow. Until then, it's goodbye from all of us at Cricinfo.
