3.21pm Let's hear what the winning captain, Dane van Niekerk, who is also the Player of the Match, has to say: Yeah, look, my bowling and batting, both are working, so I'm not going to complain. Our team's been performing really well. Every game has been a team effort. My opening bowlers are setting up our games. That I'm here is because of them and the individual performance the others have been putting up. Coming into the World Cup I wasn't too sure about my batting, but I'm glad to be able to contribute to the wins.
It's such an open tournament that you don't know what's happening. Some teams are still playing so we are not sure how things stand. At the end of the day we have another win, two more points. That's crucial. Coming into the World Cup, we were really confident of the performances we've been putting in, the hard work and the effort. In retrospect this is what we wanted to do and where we wanted to be.
Our next focus is Australia, if we get those two points, we know we're 100% in.
A word or two from Sri Lanka's captain, Inoka Ranaweera as well: As a team we couldn't perform today, our baating didn't click. In today's performance we haven't done well but in the last four games we did better as a team. Pakistan is also a good team. We hope to do well against them in our last game.
3.05pm Big win for South Africa, this. The captain, Dane van Niekerk, wears a broad grin as she goes about the high-fives in the dugout. The entire team is now out on the field and, after the handshakes with the Sri Lankans are done, they get together in a huddle, kneel down on one knee and perform their prayer ritual. With two back-to-back big wins under their belt, they are surely living up to their motto of 'Always Rising'. The eight-wicket win, with 161 balls to spare, have lifted their NRR to 1.72 and taken their tally of points to 9.
SJ: "SA win by a million overs to spare. Expected SA to win easily, but NOT this easily. Is SL's campaign done yet?" Their campaign had come to a premature end a couple of games ago, SJ. They have one last match left in the tournament, where they take on Pakistan. Both teams are winless, but one of them will surely end their World Cup on a positive note.
