That brings us to the end of our coverage on Day 1 of the World T20. Plenty to come in from our correspondents at the venue. Do watch out for that. Don't forget to join us tomorrow. Until then, it's goodbye from all of us here at the commentary desk.

Asghar Stanikzai: We started well with the bat today, which was very good. We were happy with the total because these are big boundaries. The wicket was a slow one as it helped spin.

Preston Mommsen: We had a great start, but lost a couple of wickets at crucial times. We couldn't keep the foot on the accelerator and stay ahead. I think if we had kept them down to 10-15 less in the first half, it would have been a good reflection of our effort. We also need to look at that middle period where their spinners kept the runs down. Our opening stand was brilliant, credit to them for carrying on even after the Powerplay. Unfortunately, one of them couldn't get a big one.

Venkat: "Today, both the chasing teams fell short by exactly 14 runs."

Mohammad Shahzad is the Player of the Match for his enterprising half-century: I'm feeling very good that we've managed to win this one. We learnt a lot looking at how the surface behaved. In the first game, it was good, but it slowed down in the second game.

10:55pm Make that 6-0 for Afghanistan in T20Is but have been made to work really hard for this one. In the end, experience has helped them prevail. Scotland's openers converted a challenging chase into a cruise before the spinners took control by choking the runs. Afghanistan's bowling at the death was mighty impressive, and as the wickets started to come, the fielding also lifted itself by several notches. Inzamam-ul-Haq still has a very serious look on his face, but there's little reason to believe he isn't delighted with this.

Munsey and Coetzer swept and reverse swept their way, but once Rashid broke through, it was a completely different story. But Scotland would take a lot of heart from this one. The manner in which they ran the favourites close would give them a boost for the two matches coming up. But it's hard to not feel for them. Had a good chance, before they saw it slipping away courtesy a few poor shots that altered the course of the game.

excellent yorker, squeezed to midwicket

Zadran to Mommsen, 1 run

pulled but straight to deep square leg

Zadran to Cross, 1 run

as far as effort deliveries go, this should be right up there. Pacy bouncer angled into the body, the batsman has no room to work with, gets a bit of glove on it as the ball flies over Shahzad's head, looks like he also got a touch on that as he leaped high, took the pace off for third man to stop it

19.3
1
Zadran to Mommsen, 1 run

looks to pull, too late on the stroke, hit high on the bat, bowler runs across to collect the ball, doesn't bother firing a throw at the bowler's end

19.2
2
Zadran to Mommsen, 2 runs

slower one, this time he dabs it down towards third man, excellent dive by Noor Ali, desperation saves a couple of runs. Didn't have the pace to run away

19.1
Zadran to Mommsen, no run

rip roaring bouncer, looks to pull but is beaten for pace, good take by the keeper. 137 clicks that

flat hit but straight to long-off

swung across the line, can only slice it to the point fielder. The pressure has got to him, he simply had to tee off. Afghanistan wold believe they are into the home stretch. Industrious innings, but couldn't bring out the big hits when he had to

worked across the line towards deep midwicket, they scamper back for the second, but had to use every ounce of his energy to complete it, he's left panting in the end

18.3
M Nabi to Machan, no run

backs away, but Nabi fires it full and wide outside off, couldn't reach out for it in the end, just a touch outside the wide line, as replays suggest. Lucky to get away

backs away and the bowler follows him by firing it down leg, whipped towards wide long on, the fielder chose the wrong end, but Afghanistan won't mind singles and twos here

Make or break over this. Need a big one

flicked towards deep midwicket, the throw was full at the keeper's end, maybe he would have been better off firing a flat one on the bounce, lost a second or two by throwing it full, by which time the batsman dived back in full stretch

Zadran to Machan, SIX runs

excellent stroke, much-needed too. Walked across, it was right in the slot for him to swung, he gave it a mighty thwack to the legcutter and generated enough power as he hit it straight over the bowler's head for a maximum

17.4
2
Zadran to Machan, 2 runs

superb yorker, not much room for the batsman to work with, somehow squeezes it past the bowler, long-on fielder switched off for a split second, enough for them to steal a second. Shahzad is clearly not happy with that effort

17.3
Zadran to Machan, no run

another scoop, another miss. Bowler saw him attempting the stroke and fired it full and wide

17.2

Zadran to Mommsen, 1 run

looked to play the dilscoop, changed his mind and played a delicate dab down to third man instead

steps out and works it towards deep midwicket

low full toss, looks to clear cover, can't get any power or timing, just lands short of the fielder there
