Brad Hodge's third century of the Ryobi Cup set up victory for Victoria in a rain-affected clash with Queensland at the MCG. The second stage of the Bulls' innings was interrupted several times by the weather and when the match-ending showers arrived, they were four runs short of the 2 for 144 they needed to be ahead on Duckworth-Lewis.
Hodge and Aaron Finch had set up a powerful total of 6 for 297 and from Queensland's halfway mark of 1 for 103, they were always facing an enormous challenge. But the rain made the contest much closer and with every over, Cameron White was poring over the printouts in his pocket, looking more like an accountant than a captain.
The loss of Ben Dunk, who played on to Shane Harwood for 60, gave Victoria the Duckworth-Lewis edge. The hosts had Hodge to thank, yet again, and his 108 from 98 balls was all the more impressive given that he had been ill on the morning of the match.
There were no signs of him being below-par as he muscled the ball to all parts of the field, striking four sixes with good support from Finch, who made 84 in their 170-run stand. Ryan Harris collected 4 for 64 but his wickets mostly came towards the end of the innings, when the damage was done.
