Scorecard
A strong batting display from Afghanistan's top order, powered by half-centuries from Javed Ahmadi and Nasir Jamal, helped the team to an eight-wicket victory against Scotland in Dubai.
Set 238 for victory in a game that was reduced to 45 overs a side, Afghanistan began their chase brightly, as the openers Ahmadi and Usman Ghani raced to 121 in 17.3 overs. Ghani slammed six fours and a six during his 39-ball 48, while Ahmadi played the more patient but effective foil, scoring 74. Fast bowler Richie Berrington dismissed both batsmen in the space of four overs, but the two new batsmen, Afsar Zazai and Jamal ensured the team's early momentum was not lost.
The pair shared an unbroken partnership of 104 from 99 balls, to power Afghanistan home in 38 overs. Zazai remained unbeaten on 48, with five fours, while Jamal's 52 not out featured six fours.
Earlier, Scotland, having been inserted, had made 237 for 8 from their 45 overs. Their innings was built around Hamish Gardiner's 96 and his 64-run association for the sixth wicket with Matthew Cross (28). Gardiner stroked 14 fours during his knock, but was denied a ton when he was bowled by Dawlat Zadran in the 38th over, and no other Scotland batsman was able to make good on his start. For Afghanistan, Zadran collected 3 for 41, while Mirwais Ashraf chipped in with 2 for 39.
