Khan Research Laboratory (KRL) were bowled out for 127 by Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) who ended the first day of their Quadrangular stage match of the Patron's Trophy in Karachi at 58 for no loss.
In what was Shoaib Akhtar's first day back in first-class cricket after the overturn of his and Mohammad Asif's drug ban, the WAPDA pace bowlers shared all 10 wickets between themselves as they bowled out KRL in 55.4 overs. Shoaib himself went wicketless in his five-over spell for KRL.
Sarfraz Ahmed, WAPDA's left arm fast-medium bowler, got 5 for 34 while Kashif Raza, the right-arm bowler, got 3 for 29 in his 11 overs. Opener Mohhtashim Ali was KRL's top-scorer with 47 before he was trapped in front of the wicket by Sarfraz. Shoaib was next highest scorer with four fours and a six in his 28 runs.
WAPDA openers, Masood Asim and Zulqarnain Haider, were on 19 and 37 at close of play.
HBL 177 for 4 (Mohmand 88*, Khalil 3-34) lead Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited 64 (Masood 4-11, Shah 3-9) by 113 runs
Scorecard
Fahad Masood and Sajid Shah, Habib Bank Limited's (HBL) right-arm fast bowlers ran through the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited's (ZTBL) line-up, bowling them out for 64 in 30 overs in the first day of their Quadrangular stage match of the Patron's Trophy in United Bank Limited Sports Complex in Karachi.
HBL then took a 69-run lead with ease by the end of play. ZTBL lost their first two wickets with only six on the board. A brief partnership of 27 between Umar Javed and Aamer Bashir didn't help reverse the collapse and the last eight wickets fell for 36 runs.
While Masood conceded 11 from his eight overs for four wickets, Shah gave away nine from seven for his three wickets. Azhar Mahmood, the former Pakistan right-arm medium bowler, chipped in with two wickets. No ZTBL batsman crossed 20.
HBL openers wasted no time and took the lead before Aftab Alam was bowled by Mohammad Khalil for 28. Khalil, who has played two Tests for Pakistan, got three wickets for 34, though that will hardly be any consolation to ZTBL. At stumps Rafatullah Mohmand, the opener, unbeaten on 88 was batting alongside Mahmood who was 19.
