Windwards close in on victory

Windward Islands closed the second day in St Lucia needing four more Leeward Islands wickets to complete their second consecutive win of the season. Windwards, who began the day at 218 for 7- a lead of 143 - added a further 96 to their total. Donwell Hector fell on his overnight score of 67, but Windwards' lead was boosted by No. 10 Deighton Butler's unbeaten 51. Lionel Baker, released from West Indies' Test squad, took a career-best 6 for 84 off 19 overs.

Leewards did better in the second innings, thanks to 93 from 18-year-old Kieran Powell. He put on 143 for the opening wicket with Montcin Hodge, who made 41. However, a late four-wicket burst from Kevin James saw Leewards collapse to 158 for 5. He had Powell caught behind, and Darren Sammy's diving effort at slip dislodged Hodge. Offspinner Shane Shillingford removed Shane Jeffers for 8 before James dismissed Omari Banks and Runako Morton. Steve Liburd and Devon Thomas added 44 but Thomas was left to led the resistance on the third day after Liburd was run out for 18.

Opener Lendl Simmons followed up his 282 for West Indies A against the England XI with 78 for Trinidad & Tobago against Combined Campuses and Colleges in St Augustine. The match finished evenly poised, with T&T at 210 for 5 in reply to CCC's first-innings score of 315. Simmons was the top scorer for T&T, with the rest of the top four failing to carry on after reaching double figures. The captain Daren Ganga made 34, but the team's hopes of a first-innings advantage rest on his brother Sherwin Ganga, unbeaten on 28, and wicketkeeper Gibran Mohammed. For CCC, offspinner Ryan Austin took 3 for 62 off 30 overs, while left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh had 2 for 61 off 24. The duo had earlier helped CCC edge past 300, with No. 11 Jamal Noel making 25.

At Windward Park, Travis Dowlin and Royston Crandon kept Guyana's innings afloat after they had been reduced to 57 for 4 by Barbados. After Barbados had piled up 495 for 8 declared, their seamers struck to leave Guyana in danger of being dismissed for a paltry total. However, Dowlin (49) and Crandon (62) ensured there was no further damage till stumps, taking their team to 166 for 4 at close.

Barbados, who began the day at 298 for 4, managed to build a formidable total. Jason Haynes, the captain, converted his overnight 89 to a century, while Dwayne Smith pushed from 55 to 80. Barbados lost three wickets in the space of 15 runs, but half-centuries from Patrick Browne (66) and debutant Nikolai Charles (55) took them past 450.
