Chris Gayle - 175 from 66 balls
Chris Gayle smashed records, with an unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls, to help Bangalore beat Pune by a massive 130-run margin on Tuesday.
Gayle ended his knock unbeaten with 17 sixes - worth a total of 102 runs - and a further 13 fours.
The onslaught to reach his century, which came of just 30 deliveries, was four balls faster than the fastest hundred in limited-overs cricket, hit by Andrew Symonds for Kent against Middlesex in 2004.
Gayle reached three-figures after just 8.5 overs and hit eight fours and eleven sixes, which meant that 98 of his runs came without running.
At the other end, his opening-partner Tillakaratne Dilshan, struggled to just 17 from 25 balls, as Bangalore reached 123 without loss.
Gayle slowed down, relatively, in the latter part of his innings, where he scored 75 from 36 balls. None the less he eased past Brendon McCullum's T20 best of 158 to post the highest individual score in a T20 match.
"I didn't want to just get the hundred and continue blasting and blasting and get out, you know how quickly this game can change," Gayle said. "I wanted to stay there till the end, make sure I bat at least 18 overs, if not all, which I did, I look on that as a point of view, where I try and bat as many overs as possible, get the hundred, and then actually let Dilly [Dilshan] take charge while I get a break and pick it up back in the end."
His captain Virat Kohli said that no words could describe the innings. "I'm privileged that I watched this innings live."
Kohli's counterpart Aaron Finch said Gayle's innings had dented his side's confidence. "That's a special innings. When a guy bats like that there's not a lot we can do, there's no boundary big enough," Finch said. "When you see balls flying over the head it does affect your confidence. Whoever bowled was going the journey. We couldn't stop him."
Michael Hussey - 88 from 51 balls
Michael Hussey's boundary-filled 88 from 51 balls helped Chennai beat Rajasthan by five wickets, after the latter, batting first, posted an above-average 185.
Chennai stuttered early in the chase and lost opener Murali Vijay, in the third over, for three. Hussey, and an out-of-form Suresh Raina, wrestled back the advantage with a ninety run-stand for the second wicket.
Hussey began with a barrage of boundaries, including a six over midwicket, to ensure Chennai kept pace, while Raina found runs with shots over midwicket and extra cover. The pair, helped by some erratic bowling, powered Chennai past 100 in the 10th over.
Chennai, a team with perhaps the deepest batting line-up in the tournament, lost Raina in the 13th over. But Hussey changed gears, thereafter, slapping Stuart Binny for consecutive fours in the 14th over and then Kevon Cooper for three fours two-overs later.
Though Chennai lost Hussey and Ravindra Jadeja in the 17th over, the damage had already been done. Hussey pipped Shane Watson, who scored the first ton of the season, for the Man-of-the-Match award.
"It was a tough target to face. My strategy was to get us off to a quick start in the first six overs. I knew the pitch was going to get slower as the game went on, and we just kept the momentum rolling as Suresh Raina came in," Hussey said. "We have some good power in the end, with Dhoni, but we didn't want to leave too many towards the end."
