For the first time, at least in recent memory, a domestic league game ended with the scores equal, both Dimona C and Lions Be'er Sheva scoring 278 runs in their Division 2 game played in Be'er Sheva on Saturday, although it was Lions who claimed full points, having lost seven wickets compared to Dimonas' 9.
Safania Nagavkar (129*) had seemingly given his team enough runs to defend, but an 188-run opening stand between the in-form Ronen Waskar (82) and Danny Ashtamkar (81) laid the platform for the home team to match their opponents literally run for run. The win ensured Lions finished the first stage of Division 2 undefeated, winning all four of their group matches.
In Division 1 action over the weekend, Ra'anana bounced back from two consecutive defeats with an easy 10-wicket trouncing of Be'er Sheva on Friday, Danny Hotz finding form with an undefeated 107, leaving the Negev team rooted to the bottom of the table without a victory so far this season.
In matches played Saturday, defending champions Young Ashdod gave their season a real boost with a 113-run victory over Lions Lod, one of the favorites to challenge for honors this year. Shmuel Moses (64) top scored in Ashdod's innings of 312, before Ishara Tanekoon took six for 40 to secure the win. Sri Lanka Jerusalem defeated Neve Yonatan by 3 wickets, chasing down their 142-run target with seven overs to spare.
