Dwayne Bravo has developed into a prime allrounder over the years and he showed his worth for the second successive time in the tournament, as he took 3 for 24 to seal Trinidad and Tobago a thrilling three-run win over Deccan Chargers in Hyderabad.
The performance not only ensured T&T won and carried two points to the next stage by virtue of their win against Somerset in their previous game, but also knocked out Deccan from the competition, as they succumbed to their ninth consecutive defeat in their home city.
Bravo only managed 11 with the bat today, but was highly effective in his opening spell with the ball, accounting for VVS Laxman, who had been ruthless in his previous knock against Somerset, and Abhinav Kumar.
But it was in the last over the Deccan chase that he really made his mark. Eight were required for victory but Bravo kept it in the blockhole with startling consistency. He hardly offered any width and the batsmen struggled to get him away. He got rid of RP Singh with a yorker on middle and leg, and followed that up by running out Fidel Edwards the next ball. With five needed off 1, he bowled one full outside off and T Suman, facing him, only managed a single to long-off to conclude a nerve-wracking game.
