Dwayne Bravo leads T&T to winning start

12-Oct-2009
Dwayne Bravo's Champions League had a terrible start - he was caught for a first-ball duck - and his dismissal contributed to Trinidad & Tobago reaching only an average score of 150 against Somerset. He was his team's most experienced Twenty20 player and T&T were now relying on him to deliver with the ball. Bravo did not disappoint ...
Bravo got hit by Justin Langer for four off his second ball but bounced back to trouble the Somerset captain with a mixture of bouncers and good-length deliveries. He then provided T&T with their first breakthrough, getting Marcus Trescothick to edge one to Denesh Ramdin, in his first over. He changed ends after that success and struck again, forcing a mis-hit from Craig Kieswetter that was held at mid-off. Somerset were 26 for 2 after five overs and Bravo had caused severe damage during his opening spell of 2-0-8-2.
He took a break thereafter and by the time he returned for his final two overs, T&T's slow bowlers had spun Somerset out of the game. Bravo, though, mopped up the tail, uprooting Max Waller's off stump after the batsman failed to connect with a cheeky chip shot. He finished the game in style for T&T, bowling the last man Charl Willoughby with the final ball of the match to finish with figures of 4 for 23. He was instrumental in T&T's 44-run victory, a margin that has boosted their net run-rate and given them a superb chance of qualifying to the next round.
