The technical committee of the ICC Women's World Cup 2009 has approved Debbie-Ann Lewis as a replacement player for Juliana Nero in the West Indies squad. The confirmation was conveyed to West Indies Cricket Board on behalf of the committee on Tuesday evening.
Lewis, the 39-year-old fast bowler from Grenada, has picked up 25 wickets in 37 ODIs at 30.68 and has scored 223 runs at 12.38. She will be making her second World Cup appearance after featuring in the previous edition in 2005 in South Africa. Nero, 29, suffered a hamstring injury during a training session.
West Indies will be up against defending champions and hosts Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in Group A and open their campaign against South Africa in Newcastle on March 8. The tournament runs from March 7 to 22.
