Sudhir Nanavati, the BCCI-appointed commissioner to look into the slapping row between Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth, has submitted a 14-page report to the board but reiterated that he was in no position to recommend punishment.
"I will not recommend any sort of punishment to the players as I have been appointed to inquire about the incident under rule 32 of the BCCI [which authorises the board president to appoint a commissioner to assist a disciplinary committee]," Nanavati, whose 15-day time period to complete his inquiry ended today, told PTI.
"I will have to submit my report on the incident to the board president [Sharad Pawar] and he will forward it to the disciplinary committee which will decide about the quantum of punishment to be given to the person who is found guilty."
He also added that "it is up to them. They can even let off a person."
This is a level-four offense [according to the ICC's code of conduct regulations] and if a player is found guilty the quantum of sentence is ban on playing large number of matches or even for life time."
