Vernon Philander, the South Africa allrounder, has been ruled out of the one-day series against Bangladesh with a hamstring injury. He was due to travel with the other limited-overs specialists, but will now be out of action for up to three weeks, although he won't be replaced in the squad.
"Vernon has a tear between grade one and grade two," said selection chief Joubert Strydom. "In layman's language that means he is ruled out for between 14 and 21 days. It is most unfortunate and disappointing as we were looking forward to giving him another run.
"We have decided not to replace him at this stage and go with the other 13 players as originally selected."
Philander has played five ODIs, taking six wickets with his nippy swing bowling, and made a positive impression during his first series in Ireland last year. He was also part of South Africa's ICC World Twenty20 squad.
The five players joining the squad already in Bangladesh left South Africa on Tuesday afternoon and will arrive in time for Wednesday afternoon's practice.
South Africa play a 13-a-side warm-up match on Friday with the ODI series taking place in Chittagong on Sunday and Dhaka on Wednesday and Friday of next week.
