Mike Watkinson has confirmed he will stay at Lancashire as their cricket manager, despite months of speculation linking him with the post of ECB's national performance director.
"I am very happy to be staying at Lancs," Watkinson told the Manchester Evening News. "It is a job that I have done for six years now, and I am really happy that I am able to continue to help build something special.
"On the other hand, I have been associated with a job that a lot of people believe would further my career."
Watkinson revealed a letter a few weeks ago from David Collier, the ECB chief executive, informing him he was no longer on their shortlist for the new post, ending months of delays.
"I had issues at Lancashire to sort out like trying to find a new captain," he said. "I just didn't think it was appropriate - despite seeing it as a great opportunity. Then I received a letter from David Collier saying that I was no longer on their shortlist, and that the panel have identified the person to take this position forward.
"Everybody at Lancashire has been really helpful. They have realised that I have been part of process that has taken place beyond my control.
"Now I just hope we can all move on, and work together to continue the work here. After what happened on that last day at Surrey, it's pretty clear all the lads can't wait for the season to start."
