No KFC or Carib matches for Sabina Park

Jamaica's venue for World Cup matches will not be finished in time to host the KFC Cup and Carib Beer Series matches next month.

The field at Sabina Park in the heart of Kingston, is ready, but construction has not been completed on the dressing rooms and the media centre, Paulton Gordon, an executive at the Jamaica Cricket Association, said.

He said no matches were likely to be played there before Pakistan faced the West Indies in the stadium's first World Cup game on March 13. Sabina Park, which will host seven matches in the tournament, is being renovated at a cost of US$25 million.

Jamaica's first-class matches in the up-coming regional cricket season have been moved to Kensington Park in Kingston, Chedwin Park in St Catherine parish and Alpart Sports Club in St Elizabeth parish. Earlier this month, it was revealed that KFC Cup and Carib Beer matches slated for Kensington Oval had to be shifted to other venues.

About 100 000 visitors are expected in the Caribbean for the tournament, which will include matches in Jamaica, Barbados, St Lucia, St Kitts, Antigua, Grenada, Trinidad, St Vincent, and Guyana.
