Jason Mohammed, the fast bowler from Trinidad, has suffered a car accident and missed out on the two-day training camp. Mohammed, who was named Man-of-the-Match in the Carib Beer International Challenge semi-final against Guyana, at Guaracara Park, spent the day being questioned at the Barrackpore Police Station.
Mohammed's car skidded off the road and landed on a family's porch early yesterday morning. He was scheduled to leave for the camp yesterday as the national team prepares to take on Barbados at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre this weekend. Rishi Bachan, a West Indies Under-19 player, and two other young men, whose names police withheld, were also in the car when it crashed.
The incident happened around 1:15 a.m. at Rochard Douglas Road, Barrackpore. Police said the men were out liming and were returning home when they crashed. They all live at Barrackpore. Teekadaye Seukeran said she was asleep when she was awakened by a loud crash. Seukeran, 42, said she ran out and attempted to open her front door, but it was blocked.
"I could not open the door. When I got out through a back door a car was on the porch and the roof was on top of the car," she said. Seukeran lives in the house with her mother Jasodiah Seukeran, 75, and her niece Lisa Mohammed, 25.
"Four young boys were standing around the car in a daze, but they were not injured. We were also in shock. I did not know what to do. It took me about 20 minutes before I could dial the police," she said. Seukeran said the boys' parents were called and they were taken for medical examinations. The silver Primera car remained at the site for most of the day, while police conducted enquiries.
